Forbes Hall Expansion Project’s Fundraising and Debt Reduction

In late 2016, TICA embarked on the planning and development of an expansion project for Forbes Hall.

To achieve this, TICA needed to do significant fundraising.  Over the next 5 years the project was conceived, planned, built and re-opened. Volunteering was at an all time high and the generosity of Thetis Islanders showed us our community’s true colours.

The project’s total final costs were $2,301,904.

Most of the costs were covered by donations from islanders, truly an amazing commitment.  In addition to these donations, money was raised both through TICA’s and individual’s fundraising initiatives, and TICA received just under $500,000 from Grants and other sources.  Near the time of completion, TICA was short $335,000, which several islanders loaned to get the project finished (the Local Lender Program).

As of January 1, 2024, $185,000 of these loans have been repaid or forgiven, leaving TICA with a debt of $150,000 remaining, with a maturity date of December 31, 2026.

Fundraising is ongoing until the funds have been raised to retire the debt.

In 2022, TICA initiated the Back into the Black Pledge Program.  This has created a predictable income going towards debt reduction.
